Labastida park
The Antonia Labastida park is a meeting point for artists and artisans of Oaxaca city. It is located in the pedestrian street in the heart of Oaxaca city, just one block from the Santo Domingo temple.

Park of the Artists
Many artists, most of them painters, artisans, and jewelers, exhibit their artwork in the park almost every day. These gifted people create new ways of expressing their pride and knowledge of this state; there are oil paintings of churches, old facades, plants, fruits, scenes of the city such as beggars and calendas; watercolors of vivid colors of places of Oaxaca such as "Tianguis", local moving markets, civil buildings, fantastic animals and insects, and more.

Art of Oaxaca
Artists in Labastida park sell their artwork at different prices, not as an expensive as at galleries. Also, lately, some weavers from different towns such as Teotitlan del Valle, Mitla, Santa Ana del Valle, the Triqui region, and of course, from Oaxaca city, have established stands where they sell their creations.

Masterpieces in Labastida park
The altarpieces, in scale, also called "Retablos", of one family of artisans who exhibit them at this park, in fact, received a national award for their original work as one of the most prominent of Mexico.
A brief history of Labastida park
It was named first "Christ's blood small square" in 1810. Then, in 1881, its name changed to "Order and Liberty small square" but, in 1894 was redesigned as a modern garden for those years standards. The town hall decided to name the place after Ms. Antonia Labastida, who was a notable person in the days of the Porfiriato (Porfirio Diaz presidency).
